Sri Lanka has a very rich collection of traditional sweetmeats both inherited from ancient days as well as from the foreign influences country had time to time. Kevum, with a long knitted history to Sri Lankan society, is most well known oil cake variety leading the traditional sweet dishes. Kokis goes hand in hand with traditional oil cakes even though some believes it to be inherited from Duch ruled costal areas of Sri Lanka. Kavum, Kokis and other traditional sweetmeats are an integral part of Sri Lankan society in celebrating cultural occasions and various auspicious life events.
